The book of Acts is a clear teaching for us to study to understand how the church was formed. Not only do we have the blueprint of His Church, but we also have an insight into the outworking of the body. How it looked, how it sounded, how it moved… all designed by God and all empowered by His Spirit.
In chapter one, we see Jesus instructing the apostles to remain in Jerusalem… “And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me;”
Acts 1:4 NKJV
Jesus gives the promise of the Holy Spirit… He doesn’t tell them how long to gather for, but to simply, gather and wait. Society as we know is not a culture of waiting! This is something that we, as followers of Jesus, must get better at. To wait on the Lord is not only precious, but powerful.
The apostles were obedient. They remained as instructed, and how incredible it must have been to be in that room when the Holy Spirit flooded in!
The Church cannot move in her fullness without the Holy Spirit. This is scripture and this must be placed at the core of what we do. Apart from Him, we can do nothing. But with Him, all things are possible.
